About Ed Protzel
Ed grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of a Jewish father and a part-Cherokee mother. He lived for a time in an orphanage when his parents divorced and left home after high school to live in St. Louis’ bohemian Gaslight Square entertainment district. These experiences gave Ed a unique perspective, which is reflected in many of his fictional characters — outsiders and gamesters, male and female, on lonely quests, seeking justice, love, and fulfillment against society’s blindness.
Ed began writing both novels and screenplays while in college, and worked on them in his spare time while working in securities management. He kept on writing as he moved in and out of St. Louis, even pulling up stakes and moving to Los Angeles for a time to see if he could make it in Hollywood. He did some freelance work for 20th Century Fox, completed several original screenplays, and received an option from a producer. But Ed couldn’t abide what he calls Hollywood’s “hyper-Darwinism,” so he enrolled in grad school at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and earned his M.A. in English/creative writing.
Publication
Ed’s first published novel was The Lies That Bind, the first book in his Southern historical DarkHorse Trilogy. It was followed by Honor Among Outcasts and the final book, Something in Madness.
Meanwhile, Ed wrote The Antiquities Dealer (A David Greenberg Mystery), a sci-fi thriller. Although starkly different from his historical fiction, The Antiquities Dealer is similar in the devious plot twists and suspense Ed’s known for.
Currently, Ed is working on the sequel to The Antiquities Dealer and a new sci-fi thriller tentatively titled Remembering Planet Earth.
